57 – Sun v3 *

Special thanks to Lisa for providing the photos. Lisa is in the USA and I encourage readers to visit her photography blog Peace of Life Today. Lisa owns the copyright on her photos.

I dedicate this walk to my readers because these are their words from two previous walks about the Sun that I transformed into this walk. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with me. You are my sunshine.

Click the video above for 2 minutes of background waves while reading.

I like walking on the beach. It is good for the mind, body, and soul – and refreshing on my feet.

The sky is home to two bright lights. Each has a purpose, power, and mystique. Some are attracted to the brightest one, others to the one with a special glow.

During sunrise, the world is calm. For two minutes, the universe seems aligned and at peace while the Sun delivers a fresh and renewed look of a new day. Seeing sunrise always puts me in a good mood because it marks a beginning. But, seeing the sunrise over water – especially the ocean – is extra special.

I was determined to get up and find a spot to watch it rise. One moment I was in the dark, then a little light, then hello to the edge of the Sun sneaking over the horizon, and then BAM – it is now fully risen. I didn’t grasp how much time passed, but suddenly I was in broad daylight, which made me feel a little giddy.

With the Sun risen, it is time to deliver light to our part of the world. The Sun is so much about life. It’s hard to imagine life without it because the Sun is the foundation. With such a vital role in life, no wonder some religions and cultures equate the Sun and a god. No wonder why people have worshipped it, drew inspiration from it, and even practiced good health through its nourishing qualities.

I know that in the larger universe, our sun is not very special – but it certainly is to us. Not only does the Sun give us life, the Sun is the reason for life on Earth. Every single person on our planet shares the same sun, so that’s something we have in common with each other.

The Sun – the shining cosmos at the center of life. The Sun – the fierce inspiration with a gentle quality to it. The Sun – the irrefutable presence in our existence. The Sun – a teacher to us for awakening, directions, and understanding. The Sun – a symbol showing us how to rest and rise.

The Sun – the ultimate Swiss Army knife as it does absolutely everything, and it does it so well. I remember being in awe of the Sun as a little boy, and how it simply moved away from us at night before returning every morning.

The Sun – the provider of light that warms our skin, allows us to see color, and calms our heart and psyche. The Sun – a mood enhancer triggering the release of serotonin and endorphins.

The Sun – a source of inspiration for photographers, poets, painters, and for baseball great Ernie Banks wanting to play two. From Here Comes the Sun to Bill Withers soulful voice singing Ain’t No Sunshine when she’s gone, the Sun can make or break a day – especially its pick-me-up mode. No wonder a walk on the beach feels so good!

The Sun is everywhere, even when it’s not. It is the source of everything that comes alive and nourishes us and our planet. The Sun – the light of certainty. We all need a little more sunshine in our lives these days, so let the Sun be the light for seeing the best in others.

The Sun, the Sun, how I love the Sun as it inspires me. I use my sunrise and sunset photos as springboards to the motivational thoughts. I never know what I’m going to say until I find the photo – then inspiration flows.

On dreary days, many dearly love to see its rays peeking out of the clouds. Even those who enjoy a rainy day miss the Sun because it is the energizing force that recharges everything it touches – including my heart.

A sandy walk on a sunlit beach is the best way to start the day. I can feel/remember standing at the edge of the water, my toes sinking into the warm sand, a sudden jolt of cold water slaps my ankles and retreats . . . ahhhhh. I’m not overly fond of endings, but the beauty of a sunset may be just signaling that it is taking a rest, and will be back to rise again tomorrow.

Sunrise, Sunset, There’s something special about the Sun rising or setting over water. Maybe it’s the combination of everything we need. No wonder why I like walking on the beach and that it is good for the mind, body, and soul – and refreshing on my feet.

  1. So beautiful Frank and so true. The sun is an elixir of life. Here in Melbourne recently we had over a week of grey skies and no sunshine. It was so drab. When the sun finally came out again it was like a light bulb turning on, it so affects our moods. Thanks also for sharing Lisa’s gorgeous photos and that iconic song that’s so apt for this post. Here’s to sunshine lighting our days! 🌝

The sun is unquestionably an elixir of life. A whole week of drab gray for Melbourne? I didn’t know that could even happen there? Then again, typical of the season? Cheers to your appreciation for Lisa’s photos and the song. In terms of the walk itself, credit goes to my readers because these words are those of commenters, All I did was pull them together. Glad you enjoyed this walk.

    1. Fraggle, I have lived in places where we did not see the sun often, so I know how that feels. I am blessed to see the sun almost every day! I’m glad you got just a little bit of sunshine in this post 😊

  2. Loving Lisa’s photographs, Frank! A bit of a weird one here today. The sky is a yellowy grey colour and sand blown over from the African continent coats everything- tables, chairs, the leaves of my camellia! I’d like some good healthy rain to wash it all off, but I doubt that will happen. 🙂 🙂 The new bridge in Tavira opens today so maybe the sun will come out to say hello later.

    1. Jo,
I hadn’t thought about the possibility of the African sands reaching you. Craving a good rain makes sense. Good luck. I know you get a good bit of sun in your region, so cheers to that. Glad you enjoyed Lisa’s photos – so cheers to adding her as one of my collaborators. An idea – the opening of the new bridge sounds like a reason to celebrate with a piece of cake! …. Just an idea.

    2. Thank you for the comment Jo! We do get our share of sand and dust where I live. Hope you get a bit of sunshine your way. And I’m with you on the rain. Living in a desert we value any rain we can get! 😊

  3. A great post on a fascinating subject.
At this time more than any other in year we can understand how ancient civilisations saw the sun as God like. The world comes alive with the return of the sun, and what is God if not new life.
Thanks for the great morning read Frank 👍

    1. Mouse,
With multiple people from your region visiting here, the sun is much appreciated this time of year. Spring is in your air and the sun is leading the way. In terms of the walk, credit for these words goes to those who commented on the previous two sun walks. This walk is of their comments, not mine .. so I salute them! Glad you enjoyed their words.

      1. Frank,
I did. Great words. Salutes all round
Visiting anywhere right now, sun or no sun, would feel like a blessing.
Looking forward to getting out a bit more when restrictions ease.

  4. The sun seems to be somewhat magical as it relates to the moods/behavior of humans AND animals! More smiles on faces in the sunshine – more activity from animals especially birds. Sunsets signal a temporary rest period for Old Sol and we know he will return with a glorious sunrise. In my mind I hear “Here Comes The Sun” by the Beatles as I write these words……..Thanks for sharing your thoughts about that bright orb that lights up our lives Frank.

    1. Pam,
The sun is absolutely magical and affects behavior. Great point! I considered Here Comes the Sun for the closing video, but, because the text included Bill Withers – his song was only logical. In terms of the walk, well – credit goes to the comments in the previous two sun walks. It’s the words from the readers – may be yours! All I did was pull them together.

Knowing you love your sunrises and sunsets, not surprising you appreciated Lisa’s photos and my third salute to the sun. However, all credit for the words goes to the readers as you who leave wonderful comments. All I did was pull them together into a post. Yamas!

    1. Pam,
Lisa’s approach to the sun definitely worked for this walk – so cheers to her for sharing her photos with us! The other day, I noticed a bright sun low in the sky to the west, then turned around to see a full moon in the sky to the east. Yes – very special!

  5. Sunrise, sunset, sunny days – all so very special, Frank. You’ve covered the bases well, and Lisa’s photos are beautiful. There’s nothing like being out as the sun begins its journey. I know, we are the ones on a journey, but where’s the romance in that 😏

    1. Dan,
Coming out of winter is a time when we give the sun a bit more attention. Interesting how we see the sun as moving across the sky, but as you said, we are the ones on the journey. Lisa’s photos are wonderful – so glad you appreciated them. Credit for the words goes to readers such as yourself who provide excellent comments. I tip my hat to all of you!

I’ve had topics here that the comments just floored me. Off the topic of my head, this may be the third walk that I’ve put together based on comments – and I know I have at least one more in the works. Glad you enjoyed the way I put this together and Lisa’s wonderful photos!

  6. Being a morning person, the sunshine welcomes my day with hope and optimism. Exquisite images to go with a musical favorite. What a great way to start out my morning on the computer. My normal early morning walk will be delayed due to a snowstorm and the dogs prefer it a bit warmer. The sun should come out in a couple of hours, till then we’ll dream of sunny skies and great tunes. Happy Tuesday!

    1. Monika,
As this post got your day off to a good start, your comment helped make my day. Thank you. Then again, the cold blast you are getting now is getting my way in a few days. Today is wonderful – sunny, breezy, blue skies with painted streaks, and 70s …. but freeze warnings have already been issued. Hopefully winter’s last gasp. Cheers to you for enjoying Bill Withers and Lisa’s photos.

Yes. Here, one day I’m running in shorts and a t-shirt and the next in coat, gloves and a tuque. Today, it’s 57 and sunny. And I’ve got some tulips shooting up! Woot! Still, won’t celebrate too much. April can be sneaky too.

    1. Sarah,
That is a fair question – and the collective answer from me is I don’t know. Personally, I enjoy sunrises – but I also know most people don’t witness that glorious time. Therefore, they appreciate sunsets. The bottom line may have to do with the sun’s attractive force.

You spend a lot of time on the beach, stay safe while you enjoy a favourite world of yours!
It’s a lovely walk and reflection here today, especially accompanied by Lisa’s gorgeous shots.
    I thank you both!
Hope there’s lots of sun, and I’m popping over to Lisa’s!
    OH, the song is A+++

Having fair skin, I do use sunscreen quite often. As far as the reflection goes, major credit and cheers to the people who made so many wonderful comments about the sun that I was able to meld them together into a separate way. And yes – Lisa’s photos are wonderful for this walk. Cheers to Bill Withers!

  8. Lisa, beautiful photos. Frank, even though I know the earth moves and the sun doesn’t, it still seems that the sunrises, then moves across the sky, and then sets without the earth doing a thing. Kind of fun to think about. Not quite like the ancient belief that the sun road across the sky in a chariot, though. 🙂

I’m right there with you about the sun’s movement. Sure seems easy to understand how ancient cultures justified it. Meanwhile, Lisa did a wonderful work with her photos, and I’m happy to welcome her to the Honor Roll of collaborators.

  9. I loved your magical beautiful description of the sunrise. I find it very powerful and soothing to think about the sun being the source of energy for absolutely everything there is on this planet. I love the glowing glimpses of the ocean and the sun together that you bring through your words and these walks.

Thanks for the wonderful thoughts about this walk. Because I want to give credit where credit is due, these words are from comments made by readers – maybe even yours! All I did was gather them, and then weave them together. So hats off to whoever wrote that sunrise description that caught my and our attention.

  10. Great post Frank! Those are some great comments about the sun. I am blessed to be able to see the sun virtually every day. It just brightens my spirits! It was fun to work with you on this and provide the photos 😊 As always, great song to end with! Very nicely done!

Many thanks to Frank @ Beach Walk Reflections: Thoughts from thinking while walking!

He offered the opportunity to collaborate with him on one of his Beach Walk Posts. As a beach lover, I am drawn to his descriptive thoughts on the beach and the beauty we can find while walking along the ocean. I was honored to provide photos for his most recent post.

    1. Donna,
Thank you. Keep in mind that these words are comments based on two previous Sun posts (pre-Donna), so all I did was pull the comments then tried to weave them together into one voice. The song wasn’t on my initial choice list, but because one of the selected comments mentioned Bill Withers, I had to use it! Nonetheless, thanks for the kind words, and I’m glad you enjoyed the music and Lisa’s photos.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Interesting how you see sunsets as a brand new day that is to come. A rare thought – but I can think of one reader saying something similar. I appreciate unique views! I’ve got the feeling the sun is already warm in your region!

  12. Gorgeous photographs Frank. A beautiful paradise. Sunday I actually layout in the sun for longer than I would normally ( in general the sun is not the friend of redheads) but I couldn’t resist , it was a lovely day and I was on the Island where I generally spend weekends now. The past two days have been dreary , I’m glad I loaded up on Vitamin D! Have a wonderful day Frank. Thank you for the music.

    1. Holly,
I imagine this is the time of the year for you when the sun feels wonderful – and not too overwhelming. Although I’m not a redhead, my skin is fair enough that I too must be careful. Meanwhile, the next two nights are going to be below freezing for me. Yikes!!! … March was pleasant, and tomorrow is Opening Day for baseball. Sure glad I don’t have a ticket.

  13. Well Frank, this one was a no-brainer! One cannot go wrong when thinking about/admiring/appreciating the sun’s beautiful light and its immense effect on our moods. I loved your closing thought about sunset being a simple indication that the sun is taking a rest and will return again at daybreak. Since moving to the south it’s hard to describe the joy of nearly constant sunshine. Even during our summers which are terribly hot and humid, I am happy here. My husband, a Bostonian, not so much LOL. We compromise with mini-vacations in the north but I am always happy to return to the sunshine of the south. As for Lisa, her images are beautiful as always!

    1. Tina,
I had to chuckle thinking about your husband. After all (in his mind), there is no place like Boston. However, he seems to be surprising. Thanks for the kind words – especially about the sunset – but these words aren’t mine. I had 2 posts about the sun in the PT Time (pre-Tina), and these words are selected comments by readers that I somehow massaged into a post. I simply want credit to where credit is due. Glad you enjoyed Lisa’s images as she joins the Honor Roll of collaborators! 🙂

    2. Thank you for your comment Tina! I’m like you, I love seeing the sun almost every day of the year. It makes my heart happy! We have our heat, but it is a “dry” heat! No really, it does make a difference! 🌞😊🌞😊 Frank did a great job with his sun post!

  14. Hi, Frank, I, too am a sun worshiper. Before I settled in Arizona, I researched climates across the country, comparing number of days of sunshine each year. I learned that Arizona used to be called The Sunshine State before Florida stole the saying! These beautiful photos combined with the prose of your talented readers makes for another winning combination! 🌞
